Thank you, Neil

I remember what it was like BEFORE we walked on the Moon. And I say "we" only because Neil and the others did the walking for the rest of humanity while we all watched.

The Moon was a mystery. For millions of years humans looked up and wondered what was going on there. We even made jokes: is it made of cheese? I think most of us knew the Moon was not a dairy product but the MYSTERY was palpable.

When Apollo 8 went around the Moon and took that picture of the Earth Rise we began to understand how WE looked to the rest of the Universe.

And when Neil stepped on the Surface the Mystery was gone. It's not that we know all about the Moon. It's that now the Moon was a place we had left our "junk", a place we had walked on, drove a car on, played a short game of golf on.....and worked on. It was now a former home and a tourist location. And maybe even a future colony.

It would - for the rest of human history - no longer be a MYSTERY. Thank you, Neil, for helping to change our world and letting us see differently.
